Hair Transplant Surgery

Hair Transplantation is the harvesting of healthy hair from the lower back or sides of the head and moving or "replanting" that hair to the front and/or crown of the head. THIS IS A PERMANENT PROCEDURE using your own hair and it will last a lifetime. No special maintenance is required. You can cut, comb, color, or whatever you normally do.

We use what has become the "gold standard" in surgical hair replacement ... Follicular Unit Transplantation. This new procedure produces an undetectable natural appearance.

What Are Follicular Transplant Units

Follicular UnitThe easiest way to explain Follicular Transplant Units is to see the actual "groupings" of your natural hair on our new Video Grafting Microscope. This will demonstrate how your hair naturally grows in one, two, and three hair groupings, now known as Follicular Transplant Units (FTUs).

Natural Appearance: By moving hair in these Follicular Transplant Units, a natural appearance can be assured. The recreated hair line is irregular, the FTUs will vary in size (1 to 3 hairs) and then placed randomly. No straight lines and no "plug" row effects!

Permanent Hair: The hair on the sides and back of the head have been programmed to grow forever. This is a fact of nature and genetics.

Hair Density: Hair density is achieved by the number of units used, the number of hairs in a unit and the artistic placement of the Follicular Transplant Unit.

Realistic Expectations

The appearance of a natural fuller head of hair that will last a lifetime is indeed possible. Coverage and density depend on the individual number of FTUs and the amount of donor hair available.

You will be evaluated as to the donor area available, expectations, costs and personal desires. The benefits, options, limitations and procedures will also be discussed in detail.

Transplantation Procedure

  1. Personal consultation with Dr. Baxa prior to the procedure to answer any additional questions. Dr. Baxa will go over all the procedures prior to and after transplantation.
  2. Dr. Baxa will mark the area to receive Follicular Transplant Units for patient approval.
  3. A sedative will be offered to relax the patient. Depending on the patient, some could be asleep or awake. The patient will have the option to watch a movie of their preference if available.
  4. A nurse will administer anesthesia to the donor and recipient areas.
  5. The donor will be removed and sutured. The donor will be divided into Follicular Transplant Units as directed by Dr. Baxa.
  6. Dr. Baxa will make small recipient openings in the transplant area.
  7. Follicular Transplant Units will be placed by the medical team.
  8. Upon completion of the procedure, the patient will be shampooed and cleaned up.
  9. The patient will review the post-operative instructions with the medical staff to assure proper care of the FTUs and will be given a 24-HR nurse on call phone number.
  10. The patient will receive a post-op package that includes medication, shampoo and other supplies.

Transplantation Follow Up

  1. The patient will have sutures removed within 10-14 days.
  2. Patients are encouraged to be examined after 4-6 weeks in order to monitor progress.
  3. The patient will begin to see significant results in 3-6 months. This will vary from individual to individual depending on how fast ones hair grows.
